A mix of high intensity rhythmic ideas, alongside luscious melodies and soulful improvisation, the quartet presents Gavlek's original instrumental compositions with fervour, exploring themes of self-discovery, nostalgia, and sometimes bugs.

In 2022 Gavlek released the quartet’s debut album, On Second Thoughts. Focussing heavily on atmosphere and interpersonal connection, Gavlek’s compositions often utilize improvisation played atop repetitive motifs, exploring themes of personal struggles and growth, their pieces allowing plentiful space for the personal touch of the players.

Alongside Gavlek, the ensemble features well-loved local musicians Lawrence Churches (drums), Angus Leighton (tenor sax), and Aleksander Folvig (guitar). Through their performances, the group shares their love for both alternative and classic jazz while providing audiences with an audibly alluring and refreshing musical experience.

In October of 2025, the Sasha Gavlek Quartet had the honour of opening for renowned American jazz singer and five-times Grammy winner, Samara Joy at the Odeon in Hobart.
